Tayport collected three valuable East Premier League points with what eventually proved to be an emphatic win against visiting Fauldhouse United, in a fixture which was arranged following the postponement of the scheduled East of Scotland Cup tie, at Livingston.
During the opening forty-five minutes, there were half-chances at both ends. Frazer Fitzpatrick had to tip a speculative long-ranger over the bar and also, towards half-time, save from Kenny Martin and Ian Smith.
Stefan Elvin and David Black both fired in shots which were spilled by the Fauldhouse ‘keeper and Lee Bryce was only inches too high with a snapshot from just inside the box.
Midfielder Barry McNaughton also had a couple of efforts on goal, but it was relatively late in the game, the 70th minute, until ‘Port finally made a breakthrough. David Black played a crucial role, chasing a seemingly lost cause to the by-line and firing over a cross which was turned home, at the front post, by Lee Bryce, for his first goal in Tayport colours.
At this stage, the points were far from safe and ‘Hoose missed a golden chance to level matters, with ten minutes remaining. A clearance from a Tayport corner was too high for David Black and Fauldhouse substitute Martyn O’Neil won a challenge against Roberto Morris, to race clear. The speedy front-man then took the ball past the advancing Fitzpatrick, only to somehow slice the ball wide of the gaping goal.
Within a minute, ‘Port doubled their lead. Mark Whatley released Lee Bryce, who motored past his marker, into the box. The goalkeeper could not prevent Bryce’s effort looping into the net, to all but secure victory.
With just a few minutes to go, the victory was sealed by substitute Darren Scott, who showed pace to escape the visiting rearguard and calmly slot the ball past ‘keeper Stewart.
‘Hoose were reduced to ten men in the final minute, when Scott was hauled down by Andy Cooper, who received a straight red card.
All in all, the main objective of three points was attained, with the added bonus of a clean sheet making it a pleasing afternoon for Tayport.
