The visiting Alloa Athletic Under 19s struggled to cope with Tayport during Saturday's friendly on the Canniepairt.
As early as the second minute, 'Port opened the scoring. James Russell tested the Alloa 'keeper with an audacious chip and, from the resultant corner, Ronnie Kenneth managed to head home from close-range.
Kenneth netted again, on 19 minutes, side-footing the ball into the net from the edge of the area, after Robbie Henderson had held off a defender to set up his strike-partner.
In the 25th minute, Henderson himself touched in the third goal, after Russell had sprayed the ball out wide and Chris Anton delivered a low cross.
Almost immediately, Henderson was released by Steve McManus and, although the 'keeper blocked the first effort, Henderson knocked home the loose ball, for Tayport's fourth of the afternoon.
Early in the second half, Ronnie Kenneth completed his hat-trick, sweeping in another delivery from Chris Anton, on the right flank.
Numerous other chances came Tayport's way in a one-sided contest, but twenty minutes elapsed before Barry McNaughton took the tally to six, with a sublime goal. A neat turn on the edge of the area saw McNaughton find space in the box and he lofted the ball, left-footed, over the goalkeeper, into the far corner of the net.
In injury-time, substitute Ross Lunan got on the scoresheet, smashing his shot into the net, after the 'keeper had blocked his initial header.
All in all, this was not too stern a test for Tayport, but it was, nonetheless, a confidence-boosting win. |
