'Port go nap at Beechwood

Tayport played their first competitive match of the 2010/11 season on Wednesday evening, at Lochee Harp's Beechwood Park, where they recorded a comfortable 5-1 win.

It took 'Port only four minutes to open the scoring, with James Russell netting his first goal for the club, from the penalty spot, after Grant Manzie had been fouled.

Towards half-time, Robbie Henderson was on hand to guide the ball home from close-range, with Steve McManus creating the opportunity.

Early in the second half, Ross Lunan scored his first official goal for the club, when he headed a fine Mark Whatley cross beyond the goalkeeper.

The next goal came with twenty minutes remaining.  Henderson found the influential McManus on the edge of the area, and although 'keeper McPherson blocked the initial effort, McManus pounced on the loose ball, becoming another debut scorer.

In the closing stages, Henderson's determination again created an opening for McManus and the former Kinnoull man produced a neat finish, for his second and Tayport's fifth of the evening.

Deep into injury-time, Harp pulled one back, when a Taylor shot flew past Neal Ferrie, but that did not detract from what had been an encouraging display from Willie Garner's men.
