North End made an excellent start to this DJ Laing League Cup tie on the Canniepairt, establishing a two goal lead, although Tayport did manage to force a share of the spoils.
Midfielder Percy was presented with the first opening, on the quarter hour, and his low finish, from the edge of the box, squeezed past Neal Ferrie and inside the post, for a shock opener.
The Dokens further stunned their hosts within a minute, when a raid down the right produced a chance for McComiskie, and he clipped the ball, first-time, into the back of the net.
In the 29th minute, 'Port reduced the deficit. Roberto Morris and Stevie McManus linked up on the corner of the box and, when the skipper was fouled, referee Banks pointed to the spot. James Russell's penalty just eluded giant 'keeper Fotheringham, to give Tayport a lifeline.
Fotheringham did push away a later Russell strike, while McManus and Ronnie Kenneth were both off-target with long-rangers, before the interval.
In the second half, 'Port had the majority of possession, but did not create a great number of chances. Robbie Henderson, a second half substitute, did come close with a vicious strike which flew inches over and Russell was again thwarted by the visiting 'keeper.
The equaliser came with four minutes remaining. A deep cross to the far post found Kenneth and his header was knocked goalwards by Henderson. Fotheringham attempted to smother the ball, but the chance was bundled home by Stevie McManus.
Cooney hit the bar for North End, in the final minute, but, ultimately, honours were even.
