Match report by Ellidh Aitken and photographs by Ryan Masheder.

Tayport were back in action on Saturday, after a free week, as they faced Arbroath Victoria away at Ogilvy Park. The last time the two teams faced off was last month in the 2nd round of the Quest Engineering Cup where Tayport secured a 2-0 victory. It was the home side that started the match the brightest and had the ball in the goal after two minutes but Zac Archer had been flagged offside before the ball went in the net. The Vics then had a series of corners putting pressure on the Tayport goal. After early pressure from the hosts the Port began creating chances, first through Kris Rollo but his shot went over the bar and then through a Jamie McCabe free kick but it went wide of the post. In the 19th minute Arbroath Victoria took the lead through Connor Gray, from a Vics corner the ball was initially cleared by the Port defence but Ross Fraser put the ball back into the box and it was met by the head of Gray who headed the ball past Gary Thain. Tayport looked for a quick response and Ewan White drove forward but he was brought down by Jonathon Bastow who received a yellow card for the foul. Tayport’s Dayle Robertson and Ryan Paterson had half chances but did not trouble Arran Lyall in the Arbroath goal. Rollo also had a shot on goal but his shot was also saved by Lyall. The teams went into the break with the hosts one nil up.

Tayport began the second half pushing forward, Paterson took an early shot which flew over the bar, and then a freekick from Louis Joyce looked promising but it was saved by Lyall. Arbroath Vics looked to extend their lead with Zac Archer coming close but his shot was turned away by Gary Thain in the Tayport goal. In the 63rd minute Dayle Robertson was brought down inside the box by Bastow and the referee pointed to the spot. Robertson took the spot kick and sent the keeper the wrong way bringing the score level. The scores only remained level for three minutes, Scott Milne won the ball on the right-hand side of the pitch and pushed forward and picked out Luke O’Brien who fired the ball past Thain. The Port looked for an equaliser and had two corners in succession with Paterson’s second corner picking out Daniel Dorovic but his header went wide of the post. Tayport’s best chance came through Dorovic whose shot was excellently saved by Lyall. In the final minutes it was Dorovic again that came closest to finding an equaliser but his header was saved by the keeper. As Tayport pushed men forward, the Vics hit on the counter attack and it looked like Ryan Tosh was about to increase the home sides lead but Craig Tosh’s shot went inches past the post. That was the last piece of action and the match ended Arbroath Victoria 2-1 Tayport.
