Tayport 3 – Forfar West End 1
Tayport continued their winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Forfar West End at the Canniepairt last weekend. The first half left a lot to be desired from the home side and it was end to end play for much of the first forty-five minutes. The first goal came from the home side after only six minutes of play – a free kick played in by Jamie McCabe and finished by Bradie Heggie. Forfar’s equaliser came ten minutes later from a corner that was headed home by Jay Yule. Play continued with chances from either side, neither of whom could find the back of the net before the first half was up.
Clearly something manager Chris Macpherson said at half time resonated with the team and despite finishing the first half on the back foot, the home side started the second half like a team who wanted to win the game. Despite looking sharper, Tayport couldn’t manage to take the lead as the second half progressed. That was until a red card for the Forfar side saw number 10 Nathan Fitzpatrick off the park for dissent and Forfar down to ten men for the remainder of the half.
Tayport finally shifted into gear, and after a Forfar defensive error Dayle Robertson managed to chip the keeper and put Tayport ahead with just over 20 minutes left to play. The third goal for Tayport came shortly after, Robertson again this time with a header that hit off the inside of the post and into the back of the net. Another few chances came for the home side in the remainder of the ninety minutes, none of which could be converted and the game finished 3-1.
Manager Chris Macpherson was pleased with the performance, speaking after the game he said, “I thought we deserved the win again and we were unlucky not score more.” After last week’s match being postponed Chris said he didn’t think that was what caused the slow start to the game. “I’ve got to give credit to the coaches because the training has been really intense. We train like we play so we should really be ticking over nicely. it’s December now so we have to be prepared to miss games, it’s not an excuse to rely on.”
Next week the team fact East Craigie in what looks to be their toughest challenge in the league thus far, Chris said of the game “Craigie are known to be ‘giant killers’ so it’s going to be a tough game but the boys are looking forward to it.”
And finally, his man of the match “It has to be Dayle, he was unplayable at times. He worked hard, he worked the defenders hard and one of his finishes was just tremendous.”
Next week Tayport take on East Craigie away from home at Craigie Park in a 1.30pm kick off.
