Tayport endured a frustrating night in Forfar on Wednesday as they played their second game of the league season. The team drew 1-1 with Forfar United in a physical match where the home side fought and battled for every ball. Forfar United started the match brightly and won an early penalty after Zack Williams was brought down by Gary Thain. The penalty was taken by Morgan Evans, but Thain went the right way and made a good save. After the penalty save Tayport started creating chances and in the 13th minute Jamie McCabe opened the scoring with a great volley that found the top of the net. The Port’s lead did not last long as in the 15th minute Forfar’s Fraser Sturrock found the net after a pass from Cameron Howie. The match became a battle as both sides looked to take the lead but neither team were able to create any clear-cut chances. In the 41st minute Forfar United were left with ten men after Rory Crighton was sent off following two yellow cards, the first for a strong tackle and the second for obstructing a free kick taken by Sam Sanchez. This did not seem to affect Forfar’s determination, however, and play continued similarly into the second half. Jamie Gill and Dayle Robertson fought for a much needed second goal for Tayport but couldn’t find the back of the net with United keeper Fraser Reid making some big saves. The match ended 1-1, Tayport left the pitch frustrated while United left delighted after earning a hard-fought point. While disappointed with the outcome of the match, assistant manager Alan McSkimming said he was looking forward to a better result from Saturday’s upcoming match against East Craigie.
