Tayport were away from home again on Saturday as they travelled to Forfar to take on Forfar West End in the Midlands Football League. Following their first league win of the season against Dundee St James on Wednesday night the Port were looking to make it two wins in a row.
It was the away side that started off brightly having much of the ball in the opening period and it didn’t take Tayport too long to make the most of their possession, opening the scoring after 12 minutes. After a string of passes in the middle of the park the ball went wide to Bradie Heggie who swung the ball into the box trying to pick out striker Kyle McMulkin but the ball was cleared away but fell to Port Captain Jamie Hume who got his shot away and smashed the ball into the roof of the net.
After the opening goal there were very few clear chances for either side with both teams having set piece opportunities but neither were able to take advantage of them. In the last minutes of the half the home side had their brightest period of the match putting pressure on the Tayport goal but were unable to find the net. The teams went into half-time with Tayport leading 1-0.
Just like at the start of the first half it was Tayport that started the half brightest and it only took them two minutes to add to their lead. It was a well work goal that saw Luke O’Brien find McMulkin, who flicked the ball to Hume who headed on to Ryan Paterson who got away from the West End defender and slotted the ball past Ross Mathews in the goal. After the second goal Tayport continued to have the majority of the ball but the third goal didn’t come till 72 minutes.
A throw into the box found Paterson who played a pass into the middle which was greeted by O’Brien who side footed the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net. The Port did have the opportunity to make it four when shortly after Paterson was brought down in the box by Mathews and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Paterson stepped up but Matthews dived to his left and saved the penalty.
The match ended 3 – 0 Tayport with the Port taking three points back over the bridge.
The Tayport Distillery Man of the match was Luke O’Brien.
