Tayport hosted East Craigie on Saturday afternoon in their third game of the season. The first half of the match was largely dominated by East Craigie with Tayport struggling to find their feet and unable to create many chances. Tayport’s Jamie Gill and East Craigie’s Grady McGrath fought for early goals but neither side could find the back of the net. McGrath received an early yellow card after strongly contesting a tackle by Louis Joyce which put McGrath into the railings. The first half continued in this way with both teams battling for possession, leading to a number of bookings. Tayport’s Ryan Paterson and East Craigie’s Adam Brown were both handed yellow cards. Tayport were then forced to make a first half substitution after Sam Sanchez went down injured, appearing to have pulled his hamstring. More yellow cards were shown by the referee after East Craigie’s Conan Howett and Tayport’s Jamie McCabe were also booked for strong tackles as East Craigie fought to stay in control of the match.
Tayport came out for the second half fighting with Ryan Paterson creating multiple chances for the Port. Dayle Robertson and Jamie McCabe both had shots on goal, but East Craigie’s goalkeeper Liam Dunn made some good saves keeping Tayport out. In the 52nd minute Tayport were awarded a penalty after a hand ball inside the box, Dayle Robertson stepped up, but his penalty was saved by Dunn. Another big moment in the match came in the 65th minute when the home side were reduced to ten men after Jamie Gill was sent off for a reckless tackle. Despite going down to 10 Tayport continued to press for a goal and the remainder of the match was end to end with East Craigie looking for a winner too. However neither side were able to find the back of the net and the match ended 0-0.
After the match Ryan Paterson was named the Tayport Distillery man of the match by Tayport manager, Chris Macpherson. Macpherson said, “His work effort was incredible, he is a fit guy. Particularly in the second half he had a lot of quality and I think if we were going to score it was going to come through him.” Macpherson also named Louis Joyce as one of his top players of the afternoon.
