Match Report: Lochee United 2 - 4 Tayport by Iain Brough
Tayport were without 2 key players from the win against Carnoustie on Wednesday. Jamie Hume picked up a knee injury with manager George Shields not willing take any further risks as our approaching game in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup looms, and Ethan Samson not available.
Despite this, Tayport made it four wins on the bounce with a statement victory at Thomson Park, seeing off rivals Lochee United 4–2 in a fiery contest that had everything—goals, cards, controversy, and an absolute world class outside of the box finish.
The hosts were reduced to ten men early on when Calvin Colquhoun was shown a straight red. Tayport wasted no time in punishing them. New signing to this season, Jay Yule was quickest to react in a goalmouth scramble, slamming home from point-blank range to put the Port ahead. Jay showing the travelling Tayport support why he is now arguably favourite to start each week.
But the lead didn’t last long. A moment of hesitation at the back allowed Lochee to pounce and level the game. Ben Sivewright not quite able to clear the ball from his feet quick enough allowing Lochee Utd to level and bringing a frantic, full-blooded first half littered with heavy tackles and yellow cards, to an end
The second half kicked off in similar fashion, but it was Tayport who began to take control. Owen Lunan’s quick feet carved open the United defence before he coolly finished to restore the lead at 2–1. Yet within minutes, drama struck again, Lunan was adjudged to have fouled inside the box. Gary Thain guessed right and even got a hand to the penalty, but the power took it past him for 2–2.

With United pushing for a third despite their man disadvantage, the extra workload eventually told. Step forward Stefan Elvin, who produced a moment of magic lashing home an absolute worldie from distance to stun the home crowd and swing momentum firmly Tayport’s way.
Sensing blood, the visitors pushed to kill the game off, and Jamie Gill obliged. His strike ricocheted off a defender with such ferocity that the Lochee keeper could only watch helplessly as the ball spun into the net, sealing a 4–2 triumph.
A huge three points for Tayport, who march on with confidence and bring the bragging rights back across the bridge.
