Former Tayport players doing well

Mark Whatley

Former Tayport player and lad Mark Whatley has been in the papers recently after he ended his seven-year spell at Arbroath. Whatley leaves Gayfield as the club’s most successful captain after leading them to two league titles, League Two in 2017 and League One in 2019. Mark played for the Port between 2009 – 2012, making 75 competitive appearances for the club. During his time at the Canniepairt, Mark won the club’s Young Player of the Year and a Goal of the Season awards. Mark now heads to Links Park where he joins League one side Montrose.

Simon Murray

Another former player in the news this season has been Simon Murray. Before heading for a year- long Australian sabbatical, Simon was at the Canniepairt in 2012-13 when his 29 appearances and 28 goals helped the club lift the East Region Premier Division Championship. Simon was also Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Fans’ Favourite and Top Scorer award winner that season. In the season just finished, Simon helped Queens Park lift the Scottish League 2 title.
